Gitwe coffee comes from smallholder farmers in Western Rwanda and is processed at the Gitwe Washing Station, operated by Rwanda Trading Company near Lake Kivu. Farmers cultivate coffee on small hillside plots, often under shade trees, using traditional and largely manual farming methods. The region’s cool climate and fertile soils help cherries ripen slowly, producing balanced and expressive coffees.
We selected this lot for espresso because it reflects the character of Rwandan coffee well. In the cup, it offers a smooth, syrupy body with gentle dried spice notes like cinnamon and soft fruit flavours reminiscent of cooked apples and rambutan, resulting in a comforting and balanced cup.
